Ultrasound Update!

I had my 28 week check up today and everything was great!  We were scheduled to have another ultrasound because Garrett was measuring big at my last appointment and I also had a routine check-up and my glucose test.  I had the orange drink and it tasted like a flat sunkist drink with a bad after taste.  I don’t drink sugary drinks often so I got a headache pretty soon after I finished and I had a little bit of heartburn as well.  But my blood pressure was great and I’m up 19.5 lbs which the Dr. said is perfect.  After I drank my drink and got my timer set for 1 hour I had my ultrasound and Dan and I got to see our little man again!  His little mouth was opening and closing and he’s getting bigger!  Because he’s getting bigger the picture of his profile isn’t as clear as our previous one but he’s a little cutie!  He was moving around a bit because of the sugar and his measurements are right on track. He is 2 lbs 12 oz right now and in the 67th percentile.  I asked again about his head and measurements and because I was such a big baby and Dan is so tall the Dr. said they will do all they can to make sure he’s  not 10lbs when he’s born, Thank Goodness!  Here are the latest pictures!

Garrett’s Profile and his right hand

Big Foot!

Little arms up by his face in the top picture and another face shot on the bottom!

So, although the face photo’s are a little alien like, he’s still precious and we’re both doing great!  I go back in 3 weeks for another check up!

On another note, Susan’s baby shower was this past weekend and she and her Mom did a great job with everything!  The decorations were super cute, the food was yummy, and she got so much stuff!  Believe it or not, Caden, and Garrett are 3 weeks apart and this is the very first picture Susan and I have together of our baby bumps!  They’re going to be best buds and I cannot wait for them to grow up together!  You can check out Susan’s blog http://www.reallifetravels.com/ to see some more of her pictures!

So, that’s about it for this week, Only about 12 more weeks until we meet our Baby Boy!!  Luckily I’ve got a lot going on in the next few months to keep me busy, and hopefully make him get here sooner! I am SO excited to meet him!!!!!

27 Weeks!

Third Trimester…..Here I Come!

So Baby Center says I’m 27 weeks which is true, and What to Expect says I am beginning my 28th week, which is also true and that means, I am just about to enter into my third trimester!!!!!  Yahoo!  What an amazing feeling it is to know that in 12-13 more weeks we will meet our Baby Boy : )  The nursery is finished, my registeries are finished, Garrett consistently rolls, kicks, and moves all over the place, and my showers are about a month away!  It’s all becoming so much more real, and I couldn’t be more excited!

In my last post I showed pictures of the nursery, and I talked a little bit about my chair.  We didn’t really know what to go for at first, standard rocker with a wooden frame, upholstered rocker and ottoman etc, but none of the chairs we looked at really stood out, until my Mother in Law threw a robe over a standard chair in the nursery that was a “searsuckerish” pattern and TADAA!!!  We had our perfect chair!
Lucky for me, we have an incredible Home Goods Store down the road that just so happened to have “our” chair for much cheaper than any other chair we looked at, and the only thing it was lacking was a
rocker/glider frame.  But, lucky for me again, I’m married to a man who can do just about anything, so,with a little team work aka Lynn buying a rocker from a mission store and sending the base to us, Dan coming up with a plan to mount the base to the chair, add the right tools, and voila we had our Perfectly Perfect Chair!
Now the nursery is completely furnished all I have left to do is wash all the bedding and put up some pictures.
Everything else is going Great!  Dan has been able to feel Garrett move and he smiles every time : ) I started my photography class a few weeks ago and I am really enjoying it and learning a lot!  My teacher is a professional photographer and he’s done some really great photos!  Check out his website/blog:  www.jeremyigo.com/blog  I’m going to have him take some maternity photos for me in the next few weeks, and I’m looking forward to that!  My good friend Susan’s shower is this weekend and I’m very excited for her!  I had a blast shopping for her gifts, and you guessed it, it made me even more excited for my showers!
My cravings have become more specific…..lately it’s been carbs and sweets!  I’m obsessed with fresh strawberries and whipped cream, and chocolate ice cream, as well as pasta salad, sushi with fresh ginger (weird I know),Quaker Oats Cereal and Chocolate Milk

My next Doctor’s appointment is on Monday, where I will have an ultrasound to check on Baby Garrett’s measurements, my glucose screening to test for Gestational Diabetes, and my General Check Up!  I will post an update afterwards to let you know how we’re doing!
But for Now…

Garrett’s Nursery

What a Weekend!!
So the weekend has come and gone,Garrett’s nursery is finally finished and I couldn’t be happier with it!!!
I have never really been one who has an eye for decorating, but I do know what I like, and I’m usually pretty good at explaining my ideas to someone and having them run with it. Lucky for me, my Mother in law is AWESOME at this sort of thing, and she really enjoys doing it!

We’ve had our furniture and bedding for a few weeks now, we had a color scheme in mind, and I’ve been picking up decorative things here and there, but the room needed to be painted and it was killing me to not be able to put everything together.  Dan’s Mom agreed to paint for us, and help put everything together and I was so excited to have her here and get the nursery finished!!  She flew in from Florida on Thursday afternoon and we looked at the paint samples that I had picked out.   Since our furniture is white, I knew I wanted to paint the walls a color that would really make it POP.  Originally I thought about a navy blue, and use my furniture and other decorations to accent it, but the room is small, and we didn’t want to make it look even smaller so we resorted to a blue that is not navy or royal by any means, but not light blue or baby blue either.  It is called steel blue, and it is beautiful!!  We cleared out the room and Lynn immediately got to preparing to paint.  Here are some before pictures….

The room looks pink because it was a little girls room before we lived here and the fan had pink shades over each light bulb.
I had to work on Friday and knew that Lynn was going to start painting early that morning but I thought she may be on the second coat by the time I got home.  Boy was I wrong!  She had both coats on and dry, and she and Dan were bringing the furniture into the room and beginning to assemble the crib when I walked in the door!  I was amazed at how different it looked and fell in love with the color right away!  We assembled the crib and began placing things in the room but I knew we still needed a few key pieces to make it complete.  Since it was 85 degrees on Friday we went up to the boat and relaxed for a bit, and decided to get up early on Saturday to shop around for a chair, lamp, table, and changing table.
We stuck to our plan and were on the road by 9:00 Saturday morning headed off to do some serious shopping.  We picked up the floor lamp and a really cute table, and hit up a few craft stores to get some decorative things, and looked and looked and looked some more for a chair but couldn’t find anything that we had to have.  Originally I thought I wanted a glider rocker, but after seeing the room, I thought an upholstered chair would be easier to work with.  We went home to eat some lunch and check on Dan (he had mulch delivered to the house and had trimmed all the bushes in the front of the house and spread all the mulch in the beds by the time we got home, and it also looks great!  Lynn and I played with the room some more and decided that an upholstered chair with a “searsucker” type pattern would be perfect for the room, and lucky for me, when my Mom was in town the last time we saw a chair that was exactly what we wanted.  Even though it isn’t a rocker, we decided that Dan and Rich (his Dad) could rig something from another rocker to make it do what we wanted.  We put the letters abover the crib, added the table, chair and ottoman, and found a changing table today that we assembled and put in the room to make it complete!  I’m pretty sure it has become my new favorite room in the house, and it will be perfect for our little guy!  Check it out : )

So…there you have it!  Garrett’s nursery is finished for now, but I’m sure after my shower, I’ll have lots more to add to it.  I am in LOVE with it, and couldn’t be happier with the way it turned out!
Thanks for all the help Lynn, I couldn’t have done it without you : )
I’ll post an update on my next blog post……just know that I am still feeling great and getting even more excited!

24 Weeks Down…..16 to Go!!

First view from the front….a little scary!

                   6 Months!

Today I am 24 weeks pregnant!!  It feels like it was just yesterday when I was talking to my Mom and just praying to get through 3 months with good news.  Now I’m coming up on my third trimester and before we know it, we’ll be meeting our baby boy! Thankfully, I have had a pretty comfortable pregnancy and I’m still feeling great, just a few minor aches and pains that are to be expected.  Hopefully I can keep up the “feeling great thing” for a little while longer!

Big Belly!

I had my 24 week check-up this afternoon.  It was another routine one, weight (still on track) blood pressure (120/70, Normal on the first reading Yay!!) Hearbeat (151, one of my favorite noises : ) And for the first time they measured my fundal height with a measuring tape. The fundal height is the distance from the pubic bone to the top of the uterus.  They do this to make sure you are on track with your due date, by measuring size, growth rate, and position.  Generally, your fundal height in centimeters should roughly equal the number of weeks you are pregnant, and they give you a 4 cm window so since I’m 24 weeks, I should be measuring between 22 and 26 cm, however, I was measuring 27 cm today, so a little big.  The Dr. told me it was more than likely nothing to be worried about, and when I asked her what may cause a larger measurement she told me it could be several things.  He could be laying funny, have a larger head (like the Robare babies on Dan’s side), or just be a big baby (which makes sense considering I was almost 10 lbs and Dan is 6’5″.  I don’t think there’s a chance that we won’t have a big baby!  So if I continue to measure big, Baby Garrett just might share a birthday with his Grandpa.  My Dad would love that!

I am scheduled to return in 4 weeks for my 28 week check-up, glucose screening (to test for gestational diabetes) and because of my measuing a little big, another ultrasound.  The Dr. wants to check out all of Garrett’s measurements.  So I’m not really worried, and actually a little excited that we get to see him again!  Thankfully, Dan will be around for the next appointment!

Baby Garrett has become quite the mover over the last week or so!  He’s been moving all over the place, and although I can only see my belly move a little when he does, if I put my hand on top of it I can feel it from the outside as well as the inside! It feels like he’s rolling and flipping all through my stomach and I think he’s going to take after his Momma and be a little swimmer!  I can’t wait for Dan to get back into town so he can feel him too!

The nursery is starting to come together (at least in my head) We’ve gotten the crib and mattress as well as the dresser and changing pad, and our bedding!  I picked up a couple paint samples and painted some poster boards to put on the walls.  I’ve also gotten some white shelves and picture frames, and a big white mirror to go above Garrett’s dresser.  I’m leaning towards a navy (or comparable darker blue) for the walls with a lighter blue and white accent.  I have the letters in his name for above his crib, and my good friend Erin is letting me borrow a bassinett that matches perfectly with our color scheme!  Check it out!

Oscar still isn’t too sure about all this new baby stuff!

I’m so EXCITED for my Mother-in-law and sister-in-law to come into town next weekend to help paint the nursery and set it up!  I will post more pictures when we’ve got it finished!  In the mean time…here is my

San Diego, 5 1/2 months, and Baby Brewton’s Name : )

The View from our back porch!

I flew out to San Diego last Tuesday evening to meet my Mom, Grandma, and Aunt for a few days, and had a great time visiting with my cousin and her fiance as well.  San Diego is a really cool area and although the weather was a bit cooler than normal, I really enjoyed myself.  Luckily, we got out right before the snow came!  San Diego is full of cute little beach towns, and we stayed in Ocean Beach, but spent plenty of time in areas like Pacific Beach, Newport Beach, la Jolla, and even had a fantastic dinner on Friday evening in the Gaslamp District at a place called de Medici’s

Aunt Lori and Mom on the Boat!

We did lots of touring around and even went on a Whale Watching Cruise out of San Diego Bay and yes we really did see whales!  We weren’t able to get up very close to them, but I was able to get a few great shots with my camera!

Finn Whales

On Thursday we went up to Dana Point, and Newport Beach with my cousin Leah and looked at possible wedding venues with them!  The beaches were very pretty and I loved the Palm Trees that lined the streets of Newport Beach, it was a beautiful area and we had a great time hanging out.  Can’t wait til the wedding next year!

The Happy Couple Leah and Erik!
It was great to spend time with my family, and because we live so far it may be the last time Leah gets to see me before the baby is born, so that was very special to me.  I’m hoping I’ll get to see my Aunt again at my cousins Graduation Party in May, but I will be about 36 weeks by then so we’ll have to wait and see how I feel!  Speaking of feeling, for the most part I felt/feel great, but a 5 1/2 hour plane ride at 5 1/2 months pregnant is a little tough.  My lower back hasn’t stopped hurting since I flew out Tuesday and my feet and ankles swelled up on the plane ride : (  That was no fun at all, but thankfully the swelling goes down as long as I put my feet up whenever I can.
So those who know me, know I’m a planner, and that I like to have things laid out, set up, and ready to go before I really need them and Dan is pretty much the total opposite.  He would be fine waiting until the baby is born to name him, but I want to put his name on the wall in his nursery, and monogram a few things, and it makes it feel more real to me to call him by a name rather than Baby Brewton.  We knew early on what the middle name would be and as you can imagine, I had boy and girl first names in mind even before we knew what we were having, but Dan didn’t seem to.  We briefly talked about names here and there but our tastes seemed to be pretty different so it was tough for us to decide.  We finally did the trusty you write down your favorites and I write down mine and we used the process of elimination to determine what our little boys name would be.  So after a little deliberation, we have decided to name our Son…
Garrett Paul Brewton
Garrett is German and it means Brave, Noble, Strength of the Spear, and we think it flows nicely with Paul (after my Dad, Dan’s Grandfather, and his Uncle) and our last name.  I’m so excited to finally have his name picked out, (so I can order the letters for the wall) and I’m really looking forward to decorating his nursery now that we have our crib, and dresser and our bedding will be here tomorrow!  It’s all starting to come together and I’m sure as soon as we get the room painted and the furniture set up it will make it seem even more real!
Since it’s already Sunday, I probably won’t post again until after my 6 month check-up next week, but promise to post more belly pics and Garrett updates!

21 Weeks!

Today I am 21 weeks and feeling great!  Not much has changed since last week, no ultrasound or huge milestone to report on but I swear I’m getting bigger by the day.  Here are my latest pictures!  Special Thanks to my good friend Susan who is 3 weeks ahead of me and my inspiration for the self-portraits in the mirror idea : ) and my Mother-in-law for my tripod, that allows me to take pictures of myself when Dan is not home : )

I guess a pretty big thing is that the baby’s movements are becoming more distinct!  It used to be pretty sporadic and really only felt like tickles or flutters, but lately I’ve been feeling him more consistently, and although I still feel the flutters I have been feeling what I can only describe more as a “thump” from the inside : )  I think I’m starting to notice a pattern too.  I always feel him in the morning when I first wake up (that’s when I feel the thumps, I think it’s his way of saying “feed me Momma”) and I usually feel him after I eat, when I lay down to go to sleep at night and sometimes when I’m driving in my car.

Speaking of cars…we got a new one over the weekend!!!!  Dan and I knew that my little Jetta wasn’t going to cut it once our little guy came and that his truck; as nice and convenient as it has been for us and all of our friends : ) just wasn’t practical. Dan has a company car which he drives all the time, and I have little “Jackie”, who’s been fantastic, but just too small, so we did some research and test drove some SUV’s and we decided that a Toyota Sequoia was a great fit for us!  We wanted something bigger, that could carry us, the baby, and the dogs comfortably, and also needed something that would be able to tow the boat, and the Sequoia was esentially a perfect fit!  I put my car up for sale 2 weekends ago and by Friday I had “sold” it to a co-worker of mine!  So we traded in Dan’s truck and we now have our pretty and sweet new ride!!

The New Car!

It’s much bigger than my Jetta, but it is awesome and I LOVE it!!!!  I think it will be a great “family” vehicle : )

Half Way There!!

20 Weeks Along!!

The Baby Bump and a Full Belly : )

Today I am officially half way through my pregnancy! 20 weeks down and 20 more to go! It’s kind of hard to believe our baby has been growing for 5 months already!  At first, time felt like it was going very slowly. It took a while for me to actually “feel” pregnant and even longer to actually “look” pregnant, but I can’t say that anymore! My belly is growing by the day (My co-workers who see me every day tell me every Monday morning that it looks like it’s grown over the weekend) Luckily, I don’t mind that at all yet, in fact, it makes me happy that people are noticing a difference. I was at the grocery store the other day picking up a sub for Dan (no cold-cuts for me) and the guy who was taking care of me, when I told him I only wanted turkey, cheese, lettuce and tomato (Dan’s Favorite) said “Good for you, keeping it healthy, when you’re eating for two” At first I was a little shocked, and had I been someone else, I may have been offended, but I wasn’t at all, I actually proudly stated with big smile, Yes sir I am!  As you all know, I’m very excited about having a baby and I’m really trying to embrace every part of my pregnancy!  It keeps me happy : )

People in general seem to be acting a little differently as well.  They have been holding the door open, and insisting that I go first etc.  Also, I was at the maternity store the other day (the only clothing store I can shop at any more) and I know it’s their job, but I have had the best customer service!!  Whenever I go to GAP Maternnity,
or Old Navy Maternity, or The Motherhood Maternity Store, the sales people are very helpful and friendly and hardly let me hold even one article of clothing without offering a bag or a dressing room.
Again, I know it’s their job, and they’re trying to make a sale but it’s nice, and their courtesy is very effective!

I had my 20 week Check Up today, and everything went well!  They checked my weight (10 lbs since first appointment, which is great!) and my vitals, Blood Pressure was 170/38 at first (high for me) Then they checked the baby’s heartbeat with the Doppler device and it was 156 (always music to Momma’s ears : ) Shortly after the first Nurse left, a different Nurse came in and re-checked my blood pressure because it was elevated, and what do you know, it was 122/68 which is much better!  It has to be my nerves still, even though I feel pregnant, and look pregnant, and really know everything is going well.  I guess it’s just going to take hearing that magical sound to settle me…..silly silly nerves. After that, the Nurse Practitioner came in and did my check-up.  It was the second time I had seen her; the first time was very very early on and I didn’t get the best vibe from her.  She didn’t even smile, But this time was much better.  She smiled, and was thorough, and answered all my questions.  She felt my belly for the placement of my uterus and it is right in line with my belly button which is exactly where it should be.  Next time I come in, they should use the tape measure to measure my belly and I’m kind of excited about that : )  That way they can tell in cm how big my uterus is and use the measurement to determine if I’m on track with my due date.  I go back in 4 weeks for my next check-up.  Can’t believe I’ll be 6 months by then!!
  Posted by Picasa                                                            Weekly update!

Maternity clothes? Yeppers
Cravings of the week? Orange juice, eggs, milk, chocolate
Sleep? Going well, still loving my maternity pillow, and have some minor cramping around 4 a.m…but the Dr. said it could be because of my full bladder.
Best moment this week? Hearing Baby’s heartbeat
Belly button? Still in
Movement? Still a little inconsistent, but Friday he was very active.  It feels like little flutters, and usually tickles so much I feel like I need to scratch my belly
What I miss? A Turkey Sub
Looking forward to?  One of my best friend’s Jess is coming into town for the weekend!
Weekly wisdom? Embrace every moment : )
Milestones? Half Way Point!!

19 Weeks!

I can’t believe I’m 29 years old and almost half way through my first pregnancy : )  Time is really flying and I am so happy and blessed with the many things in  my life.
My parents came into town for the weekend to spend time with Jeff, Dan and I and we celebrated my birthday with BBQ ribs, baked potatoes, green beans, salad, cupcakes, and my favorite ice cream cake! (I felt the baby kick right after dinner so I think he’s going to be a meat and potatoes man!) The weather was next to perfect and we had a really nice time visiting and eating, and enjoying ourselves.  We got pizza and saw a movie on Friday night, then Saturday my Mom and I shopped a little bit and I got my first things for the baby’s room!  We’ve decided to go with a navy, white, light blue, gray theme and we picked up these baskets as well as a few onesies and a towel for our little guy : )

Baby Brewton’s first things!

After we shopped a little bit we headed into the city to celebrate a friends birthday and then got some sushi for dinner (Don’t worry, I only had cooked rolls and some lo mein )  Sunday my parents and I went to mass and we had breakfast at one of our favorite spots then Jeff came up and we enjoyed the 70+ degrees and sunshine and I got a new camera for my birthday!!!!  I have been wanting a nice camera for several months now and I am so happy with the one Dan picked out for me!  It’s much more complex than any camera I’ve ever owned before so I have been doing a lot of reading and using the dogs for practice.  Here are a few of my favorites I’ve taken so far!

Kuno looking mean in the play house!
Oscar and Kuno

I’m going to sign up for a photography class soon so I can really learn how to use it and keep practicing so I’ll be good by the time our little guy gets here : )

Dan had to leave town early Monday morning and I had a repeat ultrasound to try and get the remaining pictures of Baby Brewton’s organs and luckily he was cooperative.  He was not on his belly this time, in fact he was on his back and he was moving around quite a bit (One of my students parents told me to drink a glass of juice before my appointment to make sure he was awake and it worked!)  The ultrasound tech was able to get all of the pictures that she needed, and she went back and checked out his kidneys (because the previous ultrasound tech voiced a concern to the Dr. about the baby’s kidneys last week).  She assured me that everything looked great and that it may have just been that his kidneys were dilated because he needed to relieve himself and had not had a chance to do it before the last ultrasound.  She commented on his long fingers and his big feet and said it looks like we may have a big baby on our hands!  I told her my husband was 6’5″ and she said that would explain why!  Here’s the latest picture of our little man!

Baby Boy Brewton

So…..since everything looks great and I am healthy, I will not get to see the baby again until he’s born, unless something else comes up.  I’m a little bummed about that, but as long as he’s healthy and happy, I can wait til he’s born to see him again!

So here’s my weekly update!

How far along? 19 weeks

Total weight gain. Between 7 and 8 lbs

Symptoms? Stuffy nose, sneezing, a little cramping/stretching in my belly.

Maternity clothes? More and more every week, and Dan’s shirts have also become one of my favorite things : )

Cravings of the week? Meat and potatoes, peanut butter, fruit, and sweet/tart things.

Sleep? No problems falling asleep, but have been getting up around 4 every morning for the past few nights.  My stomach cramping/growling woke me up out of a dead sleep the other night and I had to eat a nutri grain bar and drink some water before I could fall back asleep.  I think he’s trying to get me used to his future 4 a.m feedings.

Best moment this week? Feeling him move more consistently, seeing my parents, and celebrating my birthday

Belly button? Innie but starting to stretch a little

Movement? Yes! A couple times a day : )  Usually feels like someone is lightly tickling me from inside my skin (sorry for the weird description) and sometimes feels like grumbles

It’s a Boy!!

Today we are 17 weeks and 5 days pregnant!  We had our anatomy ultrasound this afternoon, and we have a very stubborn little BOY on our hands!  (Definitely his father’s son)  Baby Boy Brewton was laying on his tummy the whole time and did not want to show us the “goods” at all. We were able to get a lot of pictures of his spine and of his head, and some of his organs and after about 10 minutes he gave us a little peak of his parts, and he is for sure a boy!  The ultrasound tech took all sorts of measurements and let us know that the baby is about 7 oz which is right on track and I am measuring 17 weeks 6 days pregnant which is also right on!

Of course I was nervous and anxious going into my appointment again, but they didn’t do my weight or my blood pressure this time so I don’t know what it was.  However, because the baby was on his belly the whole time the ultrasound tech wasn’t able to get all of the pictures/measurements she needed so I have to go back next Monday for another ultrasound.  (Oh Darn, I have to see the baby again!!!)  The ultrasound tech had a concern about the baby’s kidneys, so the Dr. checked the pictures and measurements and seemed to think the measurements of the organs were in the “normal” range but they want to check again and get some more pictures of the heart and other organs.  So……here I go getting nervous all over again!  I can’t wait for the day when I can be calm going into the Doctor’s office.  Hopefully everything checks out alright next week and Baby Brewton cooperates for us!!!  Either way, we’ve got lots of people praying for a healthy baby, and I’m excited to see him again!

My parents are coming into town this weekend to see Dan, my brother and I and to celebrate my birthday!  I haven’t seen them since Christmas and although that’s not long, I always love when they come down to visit and I’m looking forward to their visit!  Dan unfortunately has to leave town early Monday morning for work, and my repeat ultrasound is at 9 a.m. but my parents have agreed to stay through Monday so I have someone to go to my Doctor’s appointment with, and I’m very thankful for that.
I will post another update later this week with my usual content, and keep you informed about my appointment next week!
