Davis at 12 Months

Aren’t you glad I don’t have to talk about how late I am with Davis’ monthly posts after this one??  I am, I’d be lying if I said it didn’t make me feel a little bad that I haven’t been as diligent with his as I was with G’s.  So…I’m sorry little man… it doesn’t mean I love you and your 1 year old self any less!

IMG_1435

I whole heartedly believe it is true what they say, time flies when you’re having fun! And time flies even more when you’re having fun with your kids.  So many times I catch myself thinking how in the world did this happen so quickly??

Untitled

A year has gone by in what feels like the blink of an eye and now I have 2 toddlers!  Two mobile little boys who share so many similarities, but at the same time, so many differences.

1 year old boys

We had to push Davis’ 1 year well check back quite a bit because he had a little virus a few days before his birthday and with the holiday and everything we were only able to get in for his  appointment today, almost an entire month after his birthday.  Poor little man had to get 5 shots today and all things considered, he did pretty well.  He’s got a clean bill of health and although he’s still our skinny little guy, he continues to follow his growth curve pretty steadily.

Height: 31″ (80%)

Weight: 19lb 11oz (19%)

Head: 46cm (42%)

At Garrett’s 1 year he was 33.5″ tall, 22lb 14oz, and his head was 47 cm, so he was a bit bigger all around, but that is no surprise.

In other news, Davis scored an almost perfect score on his 12 month questionnaire!  He’s exactly where he should be as a 1 year old and for that I am thankful.

IMG_1096

It’s been a pretty big month in the Brewton household full of lots of milestones that all seemed to happen within the weeks of our Christmas Break.

  • Davis took his first unassisted steps about a week or so before his birthday, and he has since been practicing and perfecting his walking

walk

  • He can now stand himself up from a sitting position without the help of anyone or anything else, and I find him walking from place to place more so than crawling.
  • We had a little birthday party for him at our house, and discovered that he is not a fan of cake,

IMG_1171

but he does like presents

IMG_1160

IMG_1159

  • We had a Christmas with Dan’s parents here in NC, then again with my family in Ohio, and then again as just our little family when we got back from our trip.

IMG_1370

Needless to say…we got a lot of new toys.

IMG_1417

  • We made it to 12 months and 6 days of breastfeeding before he decided he was ready to be done.  We had been gradually dropping feedings one by one for a few weeks before, and he was down to one nursing session before bed.  The night after Christmas at my parents house, he refused to take his cup of milk so I nursed him and rocked him to sleep and the next night when I tried to nurse him again, he wanted nothing to do with it, and has been the same since.  I think I may have been a little more sad if I knew he was going to be our last baby, but I am actually very happy with the way we ended that part of our relationship.

IMG_1398

I did what I set out to do (which was to nurse him longer than I nursed Garrett (just about 9 months) and I did.  I think we were both ready, and now he is drinking milk from a sippy cup 3-4 times a day and is as happy as can be.  He still likes to be held and rocked to sleep (which I am totally fine with) and we are completely finished with bottles and paci’s it seems.  That was another thing he dropped quite suddenly.  He wanted his paci while we were in Ohio, but since we have gotten back home, he wants nothing to do with it because he is now a big 1 year old.

IMG_1446

  • He’s  got 6 teeth and I think he has more on their way, he LOVES Mickey Mouse and smiles and reaches for him every time he comes on the TV

IMG_1412

  • He wears 12-18 month clothes, size 4.5-5 shoe, and a size 3 diaper (though a 2 still fits him too)
  • He is still napping twice a day and I am going to hold on to that for as long as I can.  He will eat just about anything you put in front of him with the exception of fruits and sweets (cake, cupcakes, and some cookies) I’m pretty sure he would survive on a diet of just meat, some veggies or soup if I would let him which is completely opposite from Garrett.

IMG_1091

  • He’s still happiest when he is around and playing with other people, but he is able to play independently for longer periods of time now which is great!  He loves to do whatever his brother is doing and it’s pretty funny to watch them “fight” over a specific toy

IMG_1065

I’m loving how their relationship is evolving, and I’m sure there will be plenty of days when they are at each others throats, but in the long run, I really do feel that they will be best friends.  Garrett is a great big brother to him, he watches over him, and shares with him (sometimes and with certain things) and he always wants him to be included in the fun things that he gets to do.  Sure he will still act like he doesn’t see him when he’s running around with one of his trucks and he “accidentally” runs into him but he’s pretty quick to give him a hug if he realizes he’s hurt him.

  • Davis babbles while he’s playing with his toys and it’s pretty clear when he’s talking about a ball or bath.  He’s consistently sleeping through the night now that he’s not nursing anymore (I’m pretty sure he was waking up just for comfort, and because he knew I would come for him when he cried (my fault, I know) so I am feeling like a different person now that I’m getting 7 or so hours of uninterrupted sleep.
  • He climbs up the stairs, and now that he’s figured it out he’s practicing coming down the stairs as well.  He is definitely a practice makes perfect type of guy.  He’s does not have a lot of fear, and he’s got a bump, bruise or scrape on his face more often times than not.  He will continue to be our little dare devil as he gets older, and I’m convinced (though hoping I’m wrong) he will have stitches or a broken bone before too long.

IMG_1422

He’s definitely ready to take on the world, and we are so excited to watch him do it.  He’s got a fire inside of him unlike any other 1 year old we know and we feel so lucky to be the ones that get to nurture that.  I have no doubt he will give us a run for our money, but I also know he will make us so proud while doing it.  Davis you have brought so much light into our lives and we are so incredibly blessed to be your parents.  We love you more than you will ever know little munchkin!

Davis at 11 Months

IMG_0853

This little guy cracks me up.  He is so much fun to be around and I cannot believe he will be one in 16 days!

IMG_0854

I’ve never claimed to be a  punctual person (sorry honey) so that is why my post is 14 days late oops!  But this time I’m going to blame it on my lack of picture taking, and the Holiday, and possibly a little bit of denial that he is going to be 1 so soon and my wanting to slow down time as much as possible.

Either way….here is the second to last update of our sweet Davie’s first year

Weight: A little over 19 lbs (a guess)

Height: Around 31″ (also a guess)

Teeth: 4 going on 5!

Clothes: 12 Month

Shoes: Size 4

Diapers: Finally in a 3!!

IMG_0836

I nurse him 3 times a day, and he gets 2 bottles as well.  He will not drink anything but water from a sippy cup and really enjoys my camelbak (which should make transitioning to milk and getting rid of the bottle interesting)

Eats 3 meals a day (when he’s up for it)  I still wonder how he actually takes anything in with the amount of food I’m cleaning up from his high chair after he eats, but he is growing and doing all things babies do; so I’m not worried

He’s trying to be sneaky and climb up the stairs,

IMG_0849

lucky for us he gets up about 2 or 3 than cries because he’s not so sure how to get down.

IMG_0844

He enjoyed his first Thanksgiving with my family minus Randy and Jace (can’t wait to see you guys at Christmas!)

IMG_0830

And even though this is technically not his first Christmas (he was 5 days old last year) he’s enjoying the tree, the lights and the ornaments

IMG_0842

He is as gutsy as they come (the chair that he’s standing on rocks and swivels with ease) and he is going to be one tough little boy.

IMG_0857

In a span of 3 days he got his first (blackish) eye, tripped over his walking toy and bonked his head then fell off his trampoline to make sure he had a bruise on the opposite side to match.

IMG_0834

Not to mention the amount of times his brother has decided he didn’t want to share a toy and pushed, poked, or knocked him over

Regardless of how much his brother picks on him, it is adorable how much he looks up to him and wants to do everything he does, and it’s obvious that G adores him too

IMG_3519 IMG_0746

His favorite things right now are:

His brother

IMG_0800

IMG_0791

Books

IMG_0865

His dogs, balls,  and his trampoline, clapping, squealing, his Grandparents, and himself 🙂

IMG_0798

He is able to stand on his own and just in the last few days has begun taking a few steps here and there

IMG_0890

He’s great at walking behind his toy, but he’s not too great at steering or getting it away from walls when he runs into them

IMG_0804

He still loves to be outside as long as he’s warm

IMG_3536

And as soon as I grab his fuzzy blanket before I nurse him or put him down for nap or bed he brings it to his face with a giant smile and laughs.  I think that is sort of his cue that it is time to wind down, and it doesn’t matter how warm it is, he has to sleep with that blanket.

He’s brought such a great dynamic to our family and we are so thankful for him and proud of the little person he is becoming

IMG_0859

Davis at 10 Months

Double Digits.

IMG_0615

IMG_0647

10 wonderful months since we welcomed him into our family

IMG_8484

2 more months until we celebrate his 1st birthday!

IMG_0625

Time has gone too quickly, and he’s grown so much, but I love watching him become a little boy.

His personality shines through in everything he does (especially if he knows he shouldn’t be doing it)

IMG_0611

And his smiles are infectious

IMG_0663

He probably weighs a little more than 18 lbs and is around 31″ tall, but he won’t go back for another well check until he turns 1, so these are just my guestimates

IMG_0628

He loves off roading in the cozy coupe

IMG_0692

and crawling after balls

IMG_0657

He’s starting to enjoy the slide, though he’s still a little bit unsure of it

IMG_0694

He still only has his bottom two teeth (G had 6 when he was 10 months!!)

IMG_0598

So absolutely everything is still going into his mouth and he is drooling with the best of them

IMG_0603

Kuno is his buddy

IMG_0695

But both dogs are very protective of him

IMG_0682

He wears mostly 9 but some 12 month clothes, and he’s in 12 month sleepers, still a size 2 diaper for my skinny little man.  Eats 3 solid meals a day along with some snacks and nurses 4 times a day.  Some days we will work in a bottle as well.

He had his first visit to the pumpkin patch

IMG_0568

IMG_0565

Practices jumping on the trampoline daily

IMG_0708

and absolutely LOVES to help me get his brother up from nap.  G plays peek a boo with him when we come into the room…it’s pretty adorable

IMG_0706

And Davis wants so badly to do everything his brother does.  He’s very observant of him, and if he sees him do something or hears him laugh he is quick to join in

IMG_3376

He always has been and still is, for the most part, a very happy little guy (with the exception of his top two teeth still working their way in) he is sweet and smart and so charismatic and I am so lucky to be his Mom.

IMG_0633

Davis at 9 Months

Happy 9 Months to our sweet Davie!!!

IMG_0469

Ok…so he’s actually almost 9.5 months, but who’s counting 😉 At least I took his pictures and am doing an update this month!

IMG_0416

This kid seriously makes my heart smile, (and my head hurt at times) but I could not ask for a more perfect little man.  He’s stubborn, and silly, and smiley, and laughs all the time.  He’s as adventurous as they come and he is going to run circles around Garrett in no time!

crawling

Personality wise…these two are like night and day, but I love how they are both very much their own little people.  I think it will keep them interested in each other in the years to come.

boys

Davis had a well check last week and his growth continues to climb steadily on the curve . He is still a little bit smaller than Garrett was but he seems to be stronger and more determined than G was at this age

Davie’s 9 month Stats:                                                                        G’s 9 month Stats:

Height: 30.5″ – 96th%                                                                            Height: 31″ – 97th %

Weight: 17lb 11.5oz- 17th%                                                                 Weight: 20lb 6oz – 50th%

IMG_0334

Still only has 2 teeth but I feel like he’s working on more (come on teeth!!!!)

IMG_0426

He sleeps from 7:30-6:00 or 6:30 (usually)

Naps from 9-9:45 or 10 and from about 1 or 2 to 3 or 3:30 (some days are shorter and some are longer)

He’s not always consistent but I try my best to get at least a little bit of time every day when they are both napping, so I can eat, shower, fold laundry, pick up the house, prep dinner (if I’m lucky) or simply just sit down for a few minutes and unwind. I sometimes amaze myself with how much I am able to get done in such a short amount of time.  It’s funny how kids bring out that quality in us.

Wears mostly 9 month clothes, and 12 month sleepers, not sure what shoe size he is yet, but I’d guess a 4??

Still in size 2 diapers

Nurses 4 times a day

Eats 3 solid meals plus some snacks every day

Quickly crawls everywhere including up the 2 steps to our bonus room

IMG_0490

Pulls up on everything and picks out his own toys.

IMG_0501

He’s getting better at playing by himself but still prefers to have people playing or at least sitting by him most of the time.

IMG_0439

Doesn’t really care for a paci, but will take it if he’s really tired

LOVES  soft fuzzy blankets

Enjoys being outside and putting everything in his mouth

IMG_3231

Playing in the dogs bowls and Chasing after balls

IMG_0392

Drinking water from a straw sippy or a camel back water bottle

Jumping, yelling, talking and blowing raspberries. He says baba and dada and loves to imitate us when we say those combinations.

IMG_0479

Playing with ANYTHING his brother is playing with, and his brother is not a big fan of sharing.  Davis gets mad when Garrett has something he wants or when he doesn’t share, it’s pretty funny.  I’m having a really hard time getting them to “pose” for pictures together

photo

But sometimes the candid ones are the best ones!

IMG_3245

I’m not sure how we got so lucky, but I do know that these boys are loved more than they could ever possibly know

Happy 9 Months Davie Boy, we love you to the moon and back!!

IMG_0463

Davis at 7 and 8 Months

I told myself that I wouldn’t skip a monthly update so I can remember what Davis did at what time, I took pictures and had every intention of writing a post, but as you can see that got away from me.  So here I am 2 months after my last Davis update and finally taking the time to sit down and post again.

Life is busy and the days are sometimes long but time in general is short and I can’t believe my baby is already 8 months old

IMG_0240

His 7th month was a little hectic complete with road trip to Ohio to celebrate my Grandma’s 80th birthday;

IMG_9950

His first “real” sickness while in Ohio that required an antibiotic that coincided with teething, and not sleeping well, and not eating much, which resulted in a mean case of diaper rash along with a few other unpleasant side effects, but he battled it all and was still able to look as cute as could be and was also spoiled rotten 🙂

IMG_0002

He topped (my charts) at around 16lbs 4oz and about 29″ long  He learned to sit on his own, and started “planking” and rocking back and forth a little bit.  His sleep was still a little off, most of the month partially due to being sick, and partially due to teething, and partially due to habit I’m sure.

IMG_0189

We did lot’s of swimming and splashing and even took a couple of boat rides!

IMG_3038

I’m really liking that Davis is able to be outside and go swimming this summer due to his December Birthday, so we’ve taken advantage of it as much as possible and have enjoyed it immensely.

Davis continues to be pretty much on par developmentally as Garrett was at 8 months but he is definitely still lighter than G was.  And it’s funny because in some pictures I think they look so similar

boys 8 mos

But in others, I think they look different

8 montsUntitled

What do you think??

This month according to my measurements Davis is 16lb 8oz and almost 30 inches tall, so he’s still a tall and skinny little thing.  Sometimes I wonder how his upper body can support his lower body.

IMG_0278

But it does.  Perhaps we have a future yogi on our hands??

He wears 6-9 month clothes (if the 6 month clothes are long)

Size 2 diaper

Has 2 teeth (Finally!!)

Sleeps from 7:30 until between 6:30-7

He can transition from a sitting position to a crawling position and he can sit up from laying on his tummy.  He’s been scooting backwards for some time now but just recently has figured out how to move forward and is army crawling, but can also crawl a little bit as well.

IMG_0168

He is capable of pulling himself up on certain structures (like our toy chest and the ottoman in his room) and if you stand him up against something he can hold his balance

IMG_0214

He has become somewhat of a dare devil and I’m absolutely positive he is going to be our wild child. In fact…I just lowered his crib mattress last weekend.

IMG_0221

He is still very vocal and has figured out he loves to blow raspberries, especially while having his picture taken

IMG_0232

As I mentioned before, his bottom 2 teeth FINALLY popped through!!! G had teeth right when he turned 5 months old and really had no issues teething, and Davis has been the complete opposite.  They have taken their sweet time coming through and have been a bear the entire time.  His sleep habits were great as a newborn, and then he regressed between months 4 and 7.5 months and now is back to being a good sleeper!

IMG_0259

He is happy most all of the time, but he does require a little more attention than Garrett did at this age.  He doesn’t like to play by himself but is happy as can be if you are just sitting next to him while he plays.  He will crawl right over to you and grab onto your arm, hands, fingers, whatever he can and he will stand himself up, and he would bounce up and down all day if you would let him.  He likes to laugh, and mimic sounds that you make, and he has quite the personality

IMG_0230

He’s starting to take more of an interest in Garrett’s toys and G isn’t so sure he likes to share with him yet, but we are diligently working on that and I’m still really excited for when they can interact with one another more!

He grins from ear to ear when you go in to get him from his crib, he eats 3 solid meals a day (combination of pureed foods and whole foods) and he still nurses about 4 times a day.  He naps 2 or 3 times a day with a morning nap lasting about 45 minutes, and an afternoon nap usually lasting about 2 hours, and every once in a while he will require a little cat nap in the evening, but those days are getting fewer and farther between.  He’s one of the sweetest little guys on the planet and we love him so much!

IMG_3058

Garrett at 2 years!

DSC08269

Where do I even begin????  It’s so hard for me to believe that it has already been two years since Dan and I went to the hospital excited, anxious, nervous, and without any idea what this itty bitty little baby would do to us.

IMG_2762

Since 5:30 that Friday morning on June 24th 2011; we have become a family (of 4 none the less!)  Garrett has taught us more than we ever thought possible, and we consider ourselves some of the luckiest people in this world!

Since then, G has become his own unique little person and has grown so much!  It hardly seems possible that only 2 years ago he was this helpless little newborn who relied on us for his every need.

G

These days….he is is own very independent little boy.  He wants to do everything himself, and on his own time, and he constantly looks like he is trying to figure out the ways of the world.

DSC08306

IMG_9450

We too, have grown as a family unit, learned from each other, supported one another, and loved unconditionally, even when we’ve been exhausted, tested to our limit, and pushed in ways we never imagined.

DSC08272

We had G’s 2nd Birthday Party this past Sunday, at our house/pool and even after some last minute rescheduling, we still had a great turnout and were so happy that so many of his friends were able to make it!

IMG_2768

We had his 2 year well check last week and he’s still big and healthy!

Stats:

  • Height: 39in/ >100%
  • Weight: 31lbs/89%
  • Head: 50cm/89%

What he’s up to:

  • His vocabulary is getting bigger every day, and he is starting to string 2-3 words together though he’s still not speaking in sentences
  • He repeats a lot
  • Knows several animal sounds
  • Some colors
  • Knows the names of the family members he sees on a regular basis
  • Still a picky eater
  • He got a bounce house and an indoor trampoline for his birthday and he LOVES them both!

IMG_2699

  • Running and jumping are two of his favorite things to do

IMG_9430

  • He is still loves to play with water, pouring water from receptacle to receptacle, watering the flowers, playing in the water/pool, you name it, if water is involved, he’ll entertain himself for a long time with it
  • Seems to favor his left hand, though he does a lot with his right too
  • Throws balls very well over his head
  • Kicks balls
  • Jumps
  • Spins
  • Climbs on everything!
  • He asks for a green smoothie (si si) almost every single day

IMG_9532

  • He’s usually pretty good with his brother (especially when Dan and I are not around) he’ll bring him toys, and play at his jumperoo with him, but if Davis is crying (which isn’t that often)  G sometimes gets anxious/stressed and smacks him on the head :-/  I have no doubt Davie will pay him back some day ;-

IMG_2568

  • He loves to be outside and insists on going outside first thing every morning, throughout the day, and last thing every night
  • IMG_9704Walks up and down the steps just holding onto the railing
  • Still likes Mickey Mouse
  • Loves bubbles, balls, trucks, and snacks
  • Loves to help around the house
  • Not yet ready to potty train, but he knows what and where his potty is and will sit on it  (mainly because he likes to push the handle to “flush” it and it makes a car noise.)  I’m not going to push it because I now that when he is ready he will let us know
  • Out of school for the summer but will be going back to a different school (closer to home) come September
  • He makes me smile every day with his witty personality, his independence, his strong will, his genuine smile, his infectious laugh, and his calm demeanor. He may have the coloring/and features of my side of the family (a Brunner/Palmer)

IMG_9693

But there is absolutely no doubt that he is his Fathers son 🙂

❤ I am a very lucky girl ❤

Davis at 6 Months!

Image

Davis is half of a year old! I’m not sure how that happened so quickly, but it did, and here we are….6 months later and couldn’t be better! Davis is such a HAPPY baby! I’m pretty sure the only time he’s not smiling is when he’s sleeping, and even then he probably smiling inside. He smiles, talks, laughs, and coos all of the time. Big open mouth smile and squeals all around! He just lights up every single room he’s in, and I am so very lucky to be his Mommy.

IMG_2779

We had Davie’s 6 month well visit on the same day as Garrett’s 2 year well visit, so I will post G’s update soon!

In the meantime…here are Davis’ stats:

Height: 28″ 94th%

Weight: 15lbs 6oz 13th%

Head: 43cm 41st%

Image

So….just like his Daddy….he is tall and thin, and we’re currently working on fattening him up.

  • He just started eating solids a few weeks ago…..Banana oatmeal seems to be his favorite, though we’re working in other fruits and vegetables. I’m thinking of doing a combination of pureed foods and Baby Led Weaning, but I get really nervous when I give him real food so for now it’s mostly pureed foods.
  • He still nurses 6 times a day and eats solids twice a day
  • He’s back and forth with his sleep. He started off as a great sleeper, then regressed, and now it’s getting better again. Usually he just wakes up and whines a little bit, but if we give him his paci he usually falls back asleep. Every once in a while I”ll have to feed him and if I do it is almost always around 4 a.m. and he’ll go right back to sleep afterwards and even though I love sleeping 7-8 straight hours I don’t mind these eyes looking up at me in the middle of the night.

Image

  • He naps 2-3 times a day. Once about 2 hours after he wakes up for about an hour, once around noon for 2-3 hours, and sometimes again around 5:00 for about 30 min.
  • Bedtime is between 7-7:30

IMG_2781

  • When we put him down for naps or bed he always rolls onto his left side, grabs on to his lovey and snuggles up to his silky/soft fleece blanket.
  • He’s in 6 month onesies, and 3-6 month shorts
  • He wears 6 or 9 month sleepers
  • Size 2 diapers
  • He can sit up unassisted momentarily, but very much prefers to be standing and almost always pushes up to his feet when we are sitting behind him
  • His core is super strong and he practices his push ups daily. If he had it his way he would skip the whole sitting thing and go straight to crawlingImage
  • He loves to jump, stand, bounce, and splash in the pool
  • He’d hang out in his baby bjorn all day if we’d allow it as he always wants to see the world
  • He is still teething but no teeth have popped through yet

Image

    • He tolerates his carseat but only for short periods of time, it will be time to switch him to a bigger seat before we know it.
  • He’s recognized his big brother and is starting to take an interest in what he’s doing

IMG_9644

  • He brings joy to everyone who lays eyes on him
  • He’s the sweetest, cutest, happiest 6 month old around and I am amazed by him every.single.day!

Davis at 5 Months

Another month has come and gone and I am willing time to slow down more and more each day.

My Sweetness

My Sweetness

Davis turned 5 months old on May 20th, and we celebrated with our first beach trip as a family of 4

IMG_9411

Isle of Palms, SC

I seriously think that Davis is one of the happiest babies in the world, he is constantly smiling, and he was such a trooper our entire trip!

IMG_2559

IMG_2562

by the way….if you are planning on taking a trip to the beach in the near future and have kids who require way too much stuff, I highly recommend looking into a baby rental place. We used Baby’s Away and couldn’t be happier with our experience. We rented a high chair, an infant tub, a bin of toys for all the kids, beach chairs, a jogging stroller, and an umbrella but they offer lots more and they deliver it to the place you are staying before you get there, and pick it up when you leave!! It made packing for a toddler and an infant so much easier! I also can’t say enough good things about our travel bed/tent. We didn’t use the inflatable mattress insert because the sand was soft enough for Davis to lay on with just a blanket underneath him, but this thing was a lifesaver! If we were down at the beach (or the pool) and he got tired, we just popped it open and put him in it rather than having to head inside for every nap! It provided protection from the wind, sand, and sun, and he napped best when he was in this thing listening to the ocean waves!

I could probably do an entire post with pictures from our beach trip but I still struggle to find time to post so for now I’ll get back to Davie’s update.

Stats (According to my measurements)

Height: Around 28″

Weight: 15 lbs 4 oz

  • Size 1-2 diapers
  • Mostly 6 month clothes (some 3 month onesies still fit and some 3 month shorts)
  • Still no visible teeth but drooling a lot an putting everything (especially his fingers and hands)into his mouth!

IMG_2604

  • Sleep has been hit or miss lately. Some nights he’ll only get up once others he’s up multiple times (usually we can just give him his paci and roll him on his side with his lovey and he goes back to sleep) but I’m feeding him around 2 a.m most nights.
  • Naps are consistently 2-3 (good ones) a day (if we are home), but if we are out running errands his morning nap is usually broken up however, he’ll sleep for a few hours in the afternoon, and sometimes will snooze for 30 minutes in the evening
  • Bedtime is usually no later than 7:30
  • Wake time is typically around 6:30
  • Prefers sleeping on his left side but sometimes will roll to his belly to sleep with his butt up in the air (other times rolling to his tummy will make him mad and wake him up)

IMG_9516

  • Nurses about 6 times a day (can’t believe it will be time to start solids in a few weeks)
  • Still smiles and talks all the time
  • IMG_9500Loves facing out in the Bjorn
  • Standing (he can actually hold himself up if his hands are resting on something that is close to his chest height and if you try to sit him in front of you he will push up with his legs so he can stand and bounce/junp
  • Taking to his jumperoo!

IMG_9462

  • Holds himself up really well and rolls front to back and back to front with ease

IMG_9508

  • Reaches for and grabs objects and brings them to his mouth
  • Wants to be a part of what everyone else is doing, and prefers that to being alone

IMG_9409

He has brought such a great dynamic to our family and we are so excited to continue to watch him grow and capture everyone’s heart with his beautiful baby blues!

Davis at 4 Months

IMG_9194Whew!!  This 2 under 2 business is no joke, especially now that Davis is 4.5 months old (yes I realize this post it late…oops) and he’s no longer content just laying around, eating and sleeping, or being tolerant of his car seat so we can run errands.  Now that he’s getting bigger and stronger, he wants to be upright and seeing the world!

I am loving comparing the two and as you see, both boys are similar in height and head, but Davis is abit lighter than Garrett was.  I think it’s funny how different their hair lines and their skin tones are.  Poor Davie….hardly any hair and super fair skin!  I’m anxious to see if his hair lightens in the summer, but I do think that Davis is going to have darker hair than Garrett.

Here’s what else Davis is up to:

  • Size 1 diapers
  • Some 3 month onesies (though they are getting really short) 6 month onesies are good on length, but big everywhere else, and he’s in 6 month pants though they are big too.
  • No teeth yet, but he is going through about 2-3 bibs a day from drool and always shoving his hands in his mouth (G got his first 2 right around 5.5 months so D may be an earlier teether as well)

IMG_9188

  • Nurses about 6 times a day
  • Daytime naps are inconsistent he’ll sometimes cat nap in the morning while running errands or at home than usually takes a decent afternoon nap and another short evening nap
  • Was sleeping through the night up until about a week or so ago, now he’s up a few times (sometimes a paci will suffice, but I nurse him at least once in the middle of the night.  I’m pretty sure we’re going through the 4 month sleep regression now and we’re looking forward to coming out of it)
  • Rolls from tummy to back on both sides (when he feels like it) and just recently rolled from back to belly, though he’s still not crazy about being on his belly for a long time.
  • Holds his head up with ease
  • Loves forward facing in the baby bjorn
  • Smiles all the time

IMG_9175

  • Laughs when you kiss his belly or his collar bone!
  • Talks a lot
  • Tolerates his jumperoo for a few minutes at a time but gets frustrated with the toys
  • Drools with the best of them!
  • Is starting to take an interest in his big brother

We are beyond blessed with both of our beautiful, healthy boys, and are loving being a family of 4!!

A Day in My Life (as a SAHM with #2under2)

I have lots of friends who have recently had or will be having their second baby come Summer/Fall and I often get questions about how life as a SAHM for 2 under 2 is, so I thought I’d give a run down of a typical day in my life with my two sweet boys! I am by no means a pro, in fact I’m quite the opposite as I’m still learning every day and trying to figure out how to make it all work, and I know there are several Mom’s out there who care for more than 2 kids of all different ages and make it seem effortless. I aspire to be one of you someday, but in the mean time if you have any tips/tricks that you would like to share please do!!

One of the things I learned from Garrett is that babies are wired to keep us on our toes so whenever a schedule seems to be falling into place, something is bound to change and you just have to go with it or you will drive yourself crazy.

*Our days are busy so this post is lengthy….you have been warned!

My husband is in sales so he travels a little bit, but his customers are mostly local so the majority of most weeks he’s home. There are days here and there where he needs to travel and I am on solo Mommy duty, and it’s those days where I find myself running behind schedule and willing bedtime to come faster I’m so thankful that I have such a wonderful partner who is present almost all of the time to parent with, I’m not sure I could do it without him.

Onto our day…

I try to keep a schedule of activities in the mornings during the week so every day is slightly different, but from lunchtime on they’re usually pretty similar

6:30: G is up and turns on his Twinkle Star projector that is attached to his crib. He talks and plays for a little bit while I wake up.

6:45-7ish: I head downstairs and get Garrett his milk, then go back upstairs and walk in to a smiling, bouncing toddler who is always happy to see me and his sippy cup!

Good Morning!

Good Morning!

I give him his milk to distract him while I change his very wet diaper and bring G in to wake up Daddy. I close the boys bathroom door (G loves to flush the toilet and play in the water) and the gate at the top of the stairs. Then, depending on whether or not Davis is up, I either get back under my covers for a few minutes or head to the nursery to another smiley happy boy who also needs a clean diaper.

Happy in the Mornings!

Happy in the Mornings!

I get Davis changed and bring him into our bedroom so I can catch a little bit of the Today Show and figure out what I have going on for the day while I nurse him. Dan is usually in the shower by now and getting ready for his day and G is running around upstairs closing doors, turning on lights, and playing in his bedroom or the bonus room.

When I don’t hear him for a minute or so I know exactly what he’s doing and as soon as he comes back into our bedroom I know that it’s time for another diaper change.

7:30: If Dan is home and doesn’t have an early meeting that he needs to be at, he’s dressed and and will change G and get him ready for the day. Then they head downstairs to make breakfast while Davis lays on our bed and looks at the fan in our room, kicks, talks, and plays while I pump then get ready for my day.

7:45: I get Davis dressed and we head downstairs. Dan usually makes breakfast for us and we try to quickly eat together and talk over our plans for the day while G finishes his breakfast and Davis plays for a bit than dozes off and catches some zzz’s in his swing.

IMG_8829

Rough life

8:15: Dan gets out the door and I finish breakfast, while catching up on the social media world, clean up everyone’s breakfast and unload the dishwasher. If Davis sleeps I also get in some morning playtime with G (which I don’t get to do nearly enough) and start a load of laundry.

*On Tuesdays and Thursdays G goes to school so we try to get out the door by 8:30 which almost always ends up being closer to 8:45 in order to have him there by 9-9:15. And on Wednesdays I go to an 8:30 spin class at the gym so we try to leave the house by 8:15. I shower at the gym and we go to library story time immediately afterwards so we can get there by 10:30 which gives me enough time to feed Davis either in the car or the bathroom (they have a chair and changing table in one of the stalls) and both boys can get a clean diaper before story time starts at 11.

*Monday’s and Fridays continue on like this:

9:30-10ish: Davis is awake, and ready to be changed and fed again. He eats every 3 or so hours and we follow the Baby Wise schedule of eat, play, sleep, pretty closely; though the length of his wake and sleep times are still a little inconsistent. Some days he’ll play and then sleep at least a little bit after every feeding and once in a while he’ll stay awake for the entire 3 hour span between feedings, though if he does this he tends to get over tired.

On Monday’s I go to a 10:30 Spin/Strength class so after he’s fed and both boys are changed, we pack up and head to the gym. My Mother in Law works from home and usually has Mondays and Fridays off (or at least they’re light days for her) and she and G have recently started going to a music class so she’ll pick him up and I’ll just take Davis to the gym with me.

For me, the hardest thing about having 2under2 is spending enough quality time with Garrett, I am especially tied to Davis because he is exclusively breast fed and still so young. But making time with Garrett is super important to me so on Friday’s I’m going to start dropping Davis off at Grandma’s house so G and I can get a few hours of one on one time together with activities like Gymboree, parks, or play dates. While I absolutely LOVE my ERGO it’s next to impossible to chase him around and play with him the way I want to, while I have Davis strapped to me and I am know how fortunate I am to have family that is so close and so willing to spend quality time with the kids so I’d be crazy not to take advantage of it.

12:00: I pick up G or D from Grandma’s and bring them home for lunch because we are hungry!! Davis kicks and plays on his mat, or in the pack n play (usually) while G eats in his high chair and watches Mickey Mouse. If I’m lucky, I’ll get to eat as well. After G finishes lunch he’s ready for his nap so he gets his milk and waves bye bye to Davis and we head upstairs to put him down

12:45-1ish: Davis needs to be changed again and now he is hungry so I feed him and I can usually get him to fall asleep for a little while after wards

IMG_2098

Loves soft fuzzy blankets

which gives me some free time to eat lunch, do some laundry, clean up the kitchen, prep for dinner, etc and if t’s a really good day…sit down and RELAX! Sometimes my relaxing looks more like this…

IMG_2131

This tired Mama needs rest too

…but I love snuggling with my little love (Garrett has never been much of a snuggler) so I take what I can get!

3:30ish: Garrett is up and playing in his crib, Davis is usually asleep, however, it seems that the minute I get Garrett out of bed Davis wakes up regardless of how long he’s been sleeping so it’s both boys up and desperate for my attention every bit of the 90 or so minutes we have until Daddy gets home from work.

4:00:I can usually entertain G with a snack

IMG_2134

Pretzels dipped in Nutella for a special snack

And more Mickey Mouse

IMG_2251

Whenever the Tv is on…he wants it to be Mickey he sees

While I once again feed Davis and start making dinner. I find that the time between when the boys wake up from nap to the time that Dan gets home from work is the hardest time of day for me because both boys want me or my attention and I’m trying to get dinner made and ready so we can eat when Dan gets home. Most of the time the boys are in the kitchen with me

IMG_2107

Mommy’s little helper

and more often than not, this is what it looks like while I make dinner

IMG_2092

Looks about right

5-5:30:Dan is home and either takes the boys off of my hands for a few minutes or helps me finish dinner.

5:30-6ish: We sit down and eat as a family (hopefully while Davis catches a little cat nap in his pack and play or his swing) but more often than not he is awake and bored/wanting to be held.

6:30: Dinner is finished and we clean up the kitchen

6:45: We have been able to start taking little family walks after dinner because it’s still so light outside, but if it’s too cold we just hang out together while watching the news. I sometimes feed Davis again (because I find that cluster feeding him in the evening makes him sleep through the night) and Dan will rough house with G

7:00: Davis gets some more time on his mat while Dan and I sit on the floor with G and he goes back and forth between the 2 of us running, squealing, jumping, playing, and reading books…just happy to have both of our attention at the same time! When he starts to wind down a bit we give him his milk to finish before starting our bedtime routine

7:30: We head upstairs and get ready for bath! If it is a bath night for Davis, one of us will bathe him while the other bathes G and if it’s not a bath night for Davis he happily sits in his empty tub and looks in the mirror while G plays in the water.

IMG_2108

Happy to be hanging out

8:00(at the latest): G’s teeth are brushed, his jammies are on and he’s in his crib ready for bed. We say prayers, kiss him good night, turn on his twilight turtle and his twinkle star projector and close his door. He usually puts himself to sleep within 10 minutes. Then I head into the nursery with Davis for his bedtime routine. I change his diaper and put his jammies on and we sit down in the rocker for one last nursing session and some snuggle time before turning his white noise machine on to the ocean waves setting, wrapping him in his swaddle blanket, giving him his paci and rubbing his belly while he dozes off. Some nights Dan takes over Davie duty and will give him a bottle of pumped milk before bed so I can get some more time to relax.

8:15-8:30: I grab any laundry that may need to be folded, and head downstairs to fold it, unwind, grab a piece of chocolate (because I’ve earned it) and plop myself on my couch for the rest of the night, or at least until I fall asleep 😉

10:00: Dan and I turn on the dishwasher, turn off the lights, and head up to bed. I tuck both of my babies in one more time before retiring myself; exhausted, but so thankful and so blessed for another day with our two beautiful boys.

Best. Boys. Ever.

What’s not to love ❤
